09:01 am - strange thing I heard on the radio this morning
"she has just finished recording her second album in the same recording studio as her idols - Fleetwood Mac"

I have to say I don't think I've ever heard a sentence before with idol and Fleetwood Mac together.

07:09 pm - I've been finding odd things funny lately
June Kenton, owner of Rigby & Peller, will never forget the customer who bought identical bras for his wife, a 34C, and his girlfriend, a 34H – and then got them mixed up.

01:55 pm - how to be frugal in England
The Telegraph had a section on how the rich are being frugal. I love these two:

"We've started taking our children on long country walks. They complain bitterly beforehand, but we always have a fantastic time. With the money I save on theme parks and cinema tickets, I can buy myself a couple of pints of beer in a country pub while the children stand outside in the rain."

"A truly shopaholic friend, on the other hand, has adopted the drastic tactic of acquiring a puppy so that she is physically prevented from crossing the threshold of boutiques. For her, the cost of vets and dog food outweighs projected expenditure on her fashion habit."

Anyone wanting to borrow Robbie is welcome!

04:06 pm - skis and cases and thesis. oh my!
So what's been happening lately? Hmm. . .

1. Skis
I've managed to convince Andreana to teach me how to cross country ski this winter. I'm trying to avoid sinking into my typical winter funk by getting out and trying new things. So I've been looking for some used skis. I think I've found a pair, with boots and poles, on Kijii. Mike and I are going to look at them this weekend.

2. Case
One of the many requirements for an Ivey PhD is to write a case. I've been after this guy to give me info. for a year and a half. I finally got it today. So I'm planing on writing everything up this weekend. Then I can cross something off my fall to do list

3. Thesis
Proposal is in the hands of my supervisors. Hopefully I'll hear from them soon. I'm hoping to defend my proposal before Christmas so I can have my ethics form being reviewed while I teach.

4. Cough
I got sick while away with Mike and Mike and Andreana. I'm almost better. I actually slept all night without waking up coughing. Progress!

03:00 pm - why I never get any work done at home
I have Tom (our robot vacuum) cleaning the top of the stairs at the basement. The cats' food is at the bottom of the stairs so I fed Basho while I was setting Tom up. I'm working in the living room. I'm happily typing away when I hear a thud and Tom stops working. I run to the stairs just in time to see Tom flipping through the air and Basho looking up from where he's eating. Basho runs, Tom lands on the food dish and breaks it. I can't find Basho, he's hiding and Tom is now cleaning again - but he can only turn one way and he's a bit jerky.

Basho needs a beer when he surfaces. I need a glass of wine. Neko is asleep on the chair. She slept through it all.

5. I can lift a bookshelf up two sets of stairs but not down 1 without it being upside down at the end

6. Sunday night is a great night to go to emerg. if you want to feel normal

7. my sister-in-law is still not talking to me after a fight 2.5 years ago

11:25 pm - orange elbow
I have an orange office. About three days ago I got frustrated (again) with my office and decided I needed to organize it so I can work on my thesis from home. I started by clearing out my papers and ended up patching, sanding, painting the walls and rearranging everything. I even managed to move my old typewriters. I can't believe how heavy they are. I also dissembled my wardrobe that I wasn't using. My office is huge now without it! I still have a bit to do on it - like putting up some pictures, the cat window bed and some bookshelves but it's looking pretty good. Maybe I'll get some work done in here.

Maybe I'll also get the orange paint off my elbow - I managed to get it off my nose and out of my hair!
